RSVP is a program sponsored by the county Department of Parks and Recreation Elderly Activities Division via a grant from Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Parents, guardians and grandparents are invited to bring keiki in grade levels K-3 to a special Read to Me event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, in the Center Court area of the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo.

The free Martin Luther King Day reading corner will be presented as a community service project by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Hawaii County, along with Read to Me International.

Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

The child may read to the volunteer, or the volunteer will read to the child.

Each participant will be presented a new book donated by the RSVP Advisory Council.

At the last Read to Me event at the shopping center, 135 new books were given to the children, said RSVP spokesman Edward Yokoyama. For further info, contact RSVP at 961-8730.
